Did this race again today - it really is worth the long drive - although it was 52k not 60k as advertised.

Lovely Karoo scenery - and I thought about the other thread about mastering rocky climbs as I dismounted three or four times on my way up to that mast. Jislaaik what a hill - and the downhill on the other side isn't for sissies either.

I will do it again next year.

Hehehe ... the distances are a bit wierd ....

The 10km is actually 11,9km.  Only ONE kid did not finish it, think he was bout 12 years old.

The 30km is 27km.

And yes, 51km for the 60km route.

This was my first event since the mid 90's.  In fact, my first off-road event ever.

It was also the first event ever for Maritz -  5 years and 10 months old.

We have done 12,5km at the Hermanus trails, but as a solo ride, not part of an event.  We started right at the BACK ... I was not sure how he would handle other traffic ....  Quickly settled into "keep left, pass right".  He managed 8km before "hitting the wall" .... we walked for 500m, and then he got his second wind and finished the trail, and continued to ride around the parking area.

Ironically our biggest "challange" for the day - did not pre-arrange where we would meet my wife after the ride ... never dreamt it would get THAT busy !!!  We were going to meet her "at the tent" ....  Wont make that mistake again.  :whistling:

Linking the event with the wine festival, and top-notch stalls meant anything from healthy options to quick food for one and all.

Computer Mania was a STUNNING sponsor !!!

Both Maritz and I had our numbers drawn, and got NICE prizes - 19'' flat screen, 7x USB3 multi-docking station.  And Maritz also got a bedlamp unit that doubles as a bleutooth speaker set (still need to figure out all the functions of this unit) - he got this as a special gift just because it was his first ride.

So proud he tackles these sections.  Both hands on the brakes, moving forward slowly, ON the bike -

We always make time for photo opportunities.  Finally a pic of us together on a trail -

Obviously I cant comment on the longer rides, but for the families that want to start out with their kids - DO add this one on your schedule.

Excellent as always.

I'm just a bit frustrated that all the various event organiser have so many overlaping events. I would have loved to do Willow Creek, AMA Rider 100 miler, Hex Valley Autumn Splendor and DBX17. But because these events overlap I can only do 2.

Are you doing Hex this weekend ?

May be a cold one ... weather prediction is 4 to 14 degrees .... I dont even know how to dress for this.

either there are very FEW events this year, or organisers are not putting their rides on PPA ...

STRUGGLING to find rides that I can do with Maritz !!

OR, are these rides only published later ???  Would love to get the info early so we can plan ...
