XT caliper piston replacement

Why are the bike shop mechanics in Durbanville telling people that you can't replace a piston in an XT caliper?

That you need to buy a whole new caliper @ R1000 if your piston over extends???

It's only a little plastic cup with an o'ring seal , I don't get it ?

 Can someone please explain...

I've been told that 105 pedal bearings are not serviceable... Go figure. YouTube is (y)our friend

The problem is that Cool Heat don't sell the Shimano small parts.  A piston is a small part.

Don't blame the LBS for the supplier not bringing the parts in!

The stupid thing is everything with bearings or seals are repairable , I just want to spit at the fact that they say that....

In a way they are not wrong because like mentioned, if the LBS cant buy the piston and seal then technically, they cannot replace it or service it...Coolheat do not and will not bring in these small parts as it is more profitable to sell a complete caliper...

Problem with a pedal is that when you realise that it needs to be serviced the internals are already stuffed.  Like the pistons the parts are not available.  The tool to adjust the cone and lock nut also costs an arm and a leg.  If you do your own regularly great but I don't do them because half the time you end up with a sub par result and how do you charge for that?
