interesting "business side" of pokemon go - what started as an april's fool joke and has become a very smart money making tool - $75 million dollars so far

listen to the podcast from about minute 35

Little kids are minting it on their own as well... great for little entrepreneurs. Interesting enough, Nintendo shares went up 75% in a week... and then ironically had 6 billion dollars wiped off their shares due to casually stating that "Pokemon Go was not a money making idea". Silly.

until hearing this podcast I wasn't aware of the 'uses' of this game - i think it has great potential to get feet through doors at events and for small stores & charities.

And to think it's not even launched world wide yet - watch this space i guess

Wouldn't be the first time that they have made money off of Pokemon. Before this app there was a series of discs that you could collect in chip packets. Iirc Simba chips did it here in SA. It was highly popular.

I never paid much attention to this whole thing when it started, and I really thought it was just a game, (excuse my lack of the proper terminology as I really have no idea what they are called),  but the idea that you can do in app purchases to put things at locations which allow spawning of something or other, making people come to your store / location is very clever marketing and if used correctly - this thing could be huge.

I don't remember Ingress doing much, but as pointed out in the podcast - this type of game ticks a lot of boxes in our psychology of game play

P.s why's this thread not in chit chat - sorry If I'm digressing.

The discs in chips packets were a long time ago when the world hadn't yet thought of the smart phone.

Ja I am sure that the game is going to get tweaked massively and that it's going to make loads of money for various people and organisations. No matter how lame some of us (me included) think it is.

Apparently you can catch the Pokemon while riding one's bike. The link is in the OP.
