I have a Compact Ultegra Crank, the new one 6800, does anyone know if the BCD on this will allow me to put on a 52-36 ringset

yes you can buy mid compact blades 53/36 ringset, check with CWC they might be the cheapest locally

If it is the 4 arm thingy one, then yes, but trying to find those 52-36 is really tricky. We just bought a whole mid compact ultegra crank from CRC as was cheaper than rings in SA.

Hi Sidmouth,

Found this on Google for you   cheers...

The new spider makes use of a 110mm bolt circle diameter for all chainring configurations. This allows Ultegra 6800 crank owners to use the same crank for any chainring configuration, a feature that was previously only available on the Dura-Ace crank. That means you can run 53-39, 52-36, 50-34, or even 46-36 gearing on the same crank, all you will need to make the switch away from the stock setup is a new set of rings. This feature is particularly useful for cyclocross racers using standard rings in the off season. Heck, you can even throw Dura-Ace 9000 rings on this crank if you don't mind the color difference!

I changed a few months back - no problem. Re availability: I swapped with a fellow hubber who wanted my 52-36 in exchange for his 50-34. Cheapest way of doing it (thank goodness all of us have different preferences).

Just did the same...

It seemed like the only way they come in locally is on new bikes. I don't really understand why no one caters (locally) for the upgrade.

Sorry slightly off topic, but can can 52t big ring be used with 34t small ring?

I think for your front derailleur to work you need a max difference of 16  teeth. I wanted the 52 big chain ring, so I went 36/52 and added an 11-32 cassette, best of both worlds.

Edit: so, no, you can't do 34/52
