Lots of good advice above .

My son started something similar a few years ago . As soon as one of the big shops realised he was attracting customers because of his good service that shop owner with huge accounts with the wholesalers told the wholesalers that if they supply parts to the upstart he will stop buying from them .

You guess what happened .

Further issue is keeping good mechanics . They are always looking at earning more elsewhere .

Good luck do your homework as you are doing and go for it .

Established LBS asking (threatening) suppliers not to supply the small competitor.....illegal collusive practice. Report to competition commission

Just another example (As mentioned before): Yellow Saddle was great for me for the simple reasons that A) Johan was a flipping good mechanic. I would take my road bike and mtb at the same time often, and B) his work was transparent. If he did X, he charged for X. By the time the bill came, everything was as itemised as you would ever need.
