madbradd Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 @Andrew3828 You have listed the specs for the Merida Big Nine XT, not the XT Edition.The XT is a Carbon framed bike, higher end than the XT Edition. If it is the XT you are looking at (i.e. Carbon) then that is better than the Specialized at a similar price. If you meant the XT-Edition (the alloy bike), then the fork on the specialised will be the tipping point to the Specialized. Hope this helpsThis looks right. The alloy bike has a recon 30 gold, XT 3x10and deore brakes. I'd probably go for the spez for the fork.

I was leaning towards the Merida but after everyone's comments and chatting to a few friends I may have changed my mind. Will do a bit more research tomorrow and then make my decision. Thanks again

Thanks again Have you considered a second-hand bicycle? You will be able to get a much better, higher spec bike for the same amount. Problem is the warranty (only available to the first owner), but if you have the bike inspected by a bike shop, you may end up with a great bike. Otherwise, look at Silverback or Titan bicycles. you may be able to get a better value bike there as well. Or look at shops selling 2016 new bikes. You should be able to get discounts on those bikes as well. Good luck with your purchase

Added that just to start some mayhem for the purists Specialised Ambush helmet brilliant Spez or Merida - either way you'll be chuffed
