and availability a plus and pricing a plus plus and non support of cartel

R3k for this? I have just shown this to our Tool & Die and Fitter/Turner guys and they wanted to know what material that is made from....

As someone who has manufactured product for many years in SA I can comfortably state that though this tool is not difficult to manufacture, to do it at this quality from the materials used is not as easy as it looks. Additionally we like to ensure that our retailer stores make a small profit to keep their doors open too.

This is a professional grade workshop tool:

  • Stainless steel threaded shaft and expanding collet (rubber o-ring to retain).
  • Hard anodized aluminium fittings including knurled aluminium handle.
  • Nylon compression fitting to prevent damage.

I find this discussion worth while and interesting. I have built many bikes and serviced lots. If you intend to install headsets and BB's then a good press is a must. I use the Park Tool HHP-2 and also use RT-1 and RT-2 sometimes. Over the years I have (like others here) used different diameters of steel, brass and PVC pipe to knock things in and out but you have to be careful when doing it. I think you can get away without something like the Park Tool BBP-1 and HBP-1 and the Wheels Manufacturing sets of bearing removal tools and use the Adendorf set + some home made tools. I have also used many of my Park Tools for non-bike repairs. I replaced bearings on my Speed Queen washing machine the other day and my 1,5" crown race setting tool made a perfect bearing installer!

I would love a set of BBP-1 and a set of HBP-1 but I think that would be R10k +/- which is not worth it for the number of times it will get used.

What I do think you should have when servicing shocks is the RWC seal seater/installer - makes life easy. Order online from them.

Yes, I do like my lbs but I like to do things myself - also a pain to take and collect the bike.

Lastly, I will still buy a small metal lathe.......one day.....

Not looking to pick a fight but wouldn't it be cheaper then to make it out of mild steel? And then you dont have to have the aluminium annodized to harden it?

Is there an all in one kit for all bearings, aĺl bbs and all headsets?

I have learnt over the years that there is not a "one set can do all" set. The headset presses are normally longer and have a bit more "substance". You need larger flat surfaces on the press to press some headsets. I also put think plastic/nylon on the press to avoid damage to headset finish. Have a look at the Park Tool press.

The Rush Sport sets are Wheels Manufacturing sets. They are good quality, very nice and expensive.

The set mentioned earlier from the UK Bike Shop is not priced badly at all but once you have it here you will be out of pocket R3000 -3500.

PM me if you want a price on Park Tool sets, I can supply them.
