Please note Chapman's Peak will be closed for cyclists /cars from 6h00 till 9H30 on Sunday 9th October for the Chappies Challenge. Traffic police will be there to enforce closure.

The only guy allowed through will be the guy that peppersprayed the woman in Hout bay. We'll have a reception party.

It was only closed for cyclists. Not cars/buses/motorbikes.

I smell a rat - I wonder if there was any such permission given by traffic feds, or the organisers just took a chance and put up their own posters? I can't see a traffic department closing it to the road users least likely to squish a runner. And I am not sure they can close it to just one group of legal road users.

At the best of times, weekend cyclists on chappies are a law unto themselves. Add a 1500 clueless runners, and there would have been carnage. right decision IMO.

The precedent doesn't worry you?

Having shared these roads with runners during one of their events on more than on occasion, no, it doesn't. Not on Chappies at least. Then again, as a lone rider, sharing Chappies with Argus-crammers was also not the greatest experience to be honest. Just my 2c. YMMV

I meant the precedent of closing a road - any road, but in particular this one - just to cyclists. The concession holders have made it clear that they don't want us there; thankfully the law remains upheld and we get to ride a beautiful and safe piece of road (in spite of the actions of a minority).

It worries me.

What if they decide to do the same because there is a horse show in Noordhoek, or it is peak season for tour buses, or their oats were cold?

If the jolly joggers can close Chappies, why cant PPA close chappies and have a cycle race from town,  over chappies, around peninsula and end in Fish Hoek? Then either cycle back to start or pop in train...
