Pretoria to buffelsdrift.

We just bought our first bikes here in Pretoria and would plan a 

small bike weekend to buffelsdirft mtb park. http://buffelsdriftmtb.co.za/

 

We would ride friday evening from Pretoria to Buffelsdrift and then stay over

for the weekend and on Sunday drive back to Pretoria.

 

Does anyone have some recommendations, routes, experience about such a

trip? 

 

It would be our first bike trip in SA as we just arrived living for a year in SA.

So any tips, hints are welcome!

no need to make a weekend of it. We have done it a few times from Pretoria east, through to Buffelsdrift, do some riding there and then ride back in a day, gives you a good 120-140km ride depending on route. My 2c, drive there, enjoy the trails there, drive back. It's not that far...

Awesome trails out at Buffels.  You will enjoy it.

As dave said.  Drive to there, do the trails, drive back.

Also have done a couple of rides out to there, route and then back.  Long day.  But worth it.

Here is an example of a route from a club ride I did with Lynnwood Cycle Club. It starts at the Specialized shop on Lynnwood road and goes to Buffelsdrift and then back again. The route to get there is not really a mountain bike route since it just goes through the suburbs and on tar roads and only then once you arrive closer to Buffelsdrift the mountain biking begins.
