Which mtb tyres to get?

With the tyre combo's my recommendations would be:

 

Front:Maxxis Ardent Race

Back:Maxxis Icon

 

Front:Vittoria Barzo

Back:Vittoria Saguaro

 

Front :Schwalbe Rocket Ron

Back:Schwalbe Racing Ralph

(both in snakeskin)

 

I've seen many people ride the same tyre front and back.

 

F + R : Maxxis Ardent

F + R : Maxxis Icon

F + R : Onza Canis

 

These are just a few options I would consider. Personally I'm not a big fan of Continental tyres and I haven't had any experience with Spez tyres.

As apposed to Moridon I live in Scott/Maxxis country.

Whatever you do do not buy the conti protection tires. These are sold as tubeless. Tubeless they ain't. The most expensive leaky sidewall tire, ever!

The contis are not great. I've had a few sets. Don't last. Sidewalls are made of paper. Knobbies rip off!

 

I'm using a ground control upfront 29 x 2.3. Great tyre!

I have just replaced a brand new Conti race king protection with a Chaoyang Hornet. Happy to tell you that this tyre is twice as good as the Conti and half the price at just over 400 bucks. I ran the conti at 1.2 bar to get decent grip, for better grip I can run the hornet at 1.6 bar. Best of all, it's tubeless unlike the conti which leaks on the sidewalls very slowly. Long ride, pressure drops, tyre rolls and eventually burps.

 

Loved the Conti tubeless. Why did they change a winning formula?
