MTB Steerer Tubes

Hi Hubbers,

In my efforts to rid myself of this OD2 setup, I have established there are number of ways, all of which so far have been unsuccessful.

1) Find a shorter stem to fit - No one has a shorter than 60mm OD2 stem anywhere.

2) Replace the whole upper crown assembly. Far to expensive.

3) Replace the entire fork. Too expensive and I like the fork I have now.

4) Replace the Steerer Tube only.

Right, tell me if it is possible to replace only the steerer tube. As far as I can ascertain, it's just pressed in and if I can get an engineering company to press it out and press in a new one (if I could find one), will this work? Is it safe?

Your teeth, not mine.

5) Get a 1.5" stem and get a reducer made up to fit. I've done this successfully before. Will be far safer, cheaper and easier.

Yes you can but it's not advisable. Due to the creaking issues on the FOX forks the steerer is now extremely tightly pressed in. You ideally need a cradle for the CSU to sit in perfectly to prevent the stanchions bowing and pinching the steerer even tighter.

Go with what droo suggested.

Cool thanks. Now to try get a reducer.

Ping ampandy, he's in your area and should be able to sort you out or point you in the right direction.

I have a Giant OD 2 50mm AM stem that i use with a reducer on a standard steerer. So it is possible to get less than 60mm...

I have seen pictures of those but they like hens teeth...Soooo.....whats the chances of you selling me that stem and then buying another 50mm stem? Rapide have an awesome 45mm trail stem for under R400 bucks :whistling:
