Gripshift are boss. Nothing like the old cheap stuff from the late 1990s. With gripshift, gear changes are faster, easier and just feel better. Your thumb will thank you, too

Welcome to my world. Though the whole package is getting like footrot, it is growing on me and fast!

Look purposeful, but I will just leave well enough alone - I am unlikely to change the brakes, but if I did, it would be XTR all the way...

Guides are in a different league to XTR.. 4 piston calipers are definatly the way to go as soon as the trail points downhill- fortunately shimano also make the trail version of their brakes and they are better - not as good as the guides though - although that is my opinion - but one many people also have. There is a tiny weight penalty over the levels - but worth it.

 

I think the levers are the same for the levels- so you could just swap the calipers in theory to get the added brake performance.
