She is a monster ! Ever since I started cycling in 1990 she was already a World Champion and 18 years later she still hurts the best Elite woman in the world. Surely the best woman's cyclist of all time ? smiley9.gif

"There are few active racers who can be described as a legend with no dispute. Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli, who has won 51 French and world championships, is at the top of the list.

Longo, 49, said she chose to do Mt. Hood because she likes to try new things. She is preparing for this summer's Olympic games, where she hopes to compete in the road race and individual time trial. She has won four Olympic medals in her career, including a gold in the 1996 road race.

"I have been racing for a long time, of course. If I could do something new, it's better," she said.

Double tumbs up Jeannie !!

There was also rumours that she wanted to race with the men, because their was no competition for her in the late 80 and early 90 in women's cycling smiley29.gif

****ALMOST HIGHJACK****

It is sort of similar to the topic....why is that the woman section of sports is not that popular, take cycling, netbal, soccer, etc.

You never seem to hear a lot of the Tour de Femme but it is one of the biggest cycling events for woman? I think in SA there is more female than male so in comparison they should be more than us in everything excl. shopping!

I heard yesterday that Justine Henin is calling it quits while number 1. Guess she has enough money now.

With all them russki hotties playing, she realised there's some level she just can't compete on...

Perhaps you guys should consider the pressure she has to deal with being number 1 in the world for the past few years. If you would read up about her a bit - you would pick up that she has had lots of private issues too. Some respect please - she is one of the best players the world of tennis has ever seen!

Money... do you think top sportsmen or women compete for the bucks? Thats a very short sighted answer - pathetic really! You think that is what motivates Federer to go out and compete every day?? THINK again - or just THINK for a change!!
