Hi all,

I've recently replaced both my Chain (KMC X11) and Jockey wheels at the same time.

New chain purchased is KMC X11SL. Jockey Wheels: Shimano XTR M9000

Problem is chain does not seem to fit jockey wheel... see link to video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejzq6a1bKC4

Chain dimension as per package: 1/2 x 11/128 with a Pin Length of 5.50 mm.

I've used 2 KMC chains prior to this one with no issues.

Does anyone know if these dimensions are standard?

Thanks

Markus

Apparently the m9000 teeth is sligthly, when I say slightly; I mean 1/10th of a mm wider than the sl chain, so it climbs on and doesnt seat.

Did you have the same combo previously ?

Previous 2 chains were both KMC X11 (.93 I think).

Did a quick check, found two guys with the same issue, ons on chainreaction platform and another one; one guy responded with the difference in width; yet handful of others say they ran it without any issue.

Can you see if every tooth seats individually without any pressure on it?

Had the same problem. Tried many things to resolve but at the end a CN-HG900 XTR chain was the solution and I had to buy the xtr chain. I fitted the kmc to my roadbike and it works perfectly there.

Btw I think the x11.93 is different perhaps. Some have used them without issues.

Dammit... Do you need another chain for your roadbike...

I also think the. 93 dimensions are different. I've done close to 2000km on previous. 93 without a glitch. Will try to get hold of another.

Shimano top jockey wheel is assymetric. Shimano 11 spd chain is also directional. Did you fit the jockey wheel the right way around?

Yup, direction is ok.

Yup, direction is ok.

Just to clarify - it is not only the pulley direction but pulley position on the RD that is important.  Shimano does not make it easy because their markings on the wheels are not consistent over the different models.  The top pulley is usually marked as "Guide" or "G-Pulley" and direction can usually be either way.  The lower pulley can be marked as "Tension" or unmarked but it has a directional arrow on it.  I am not sure how the XTR M9000 ones are marked as I don't have in stock right now.  The size of the wheels is identical BUT the top guide pulley is slightly narrower than the lower.  This allows it to oscillate along the holding bolt.  If you fit the lower pulley on top it cannot move and the set up will not work as well.

Hi David,

Thanks for the details.

The M9000 wheels are marked "Guide Pulley" and "Tension Pulley" and both has direction indicators as well.

I have the Guide on top and Tension at the bottom.
