Hi everyone. I'm going to be shopping for a set of brakes soon and was wondering if anyone can give me some feedback or advice on the 9020 trail version brakes. I'm upgrading one of my bikes and have to go with one of these two opsions. First opsion is to use the M8000 XT brabes that are currently fitted on my main bike and replace them with a set of 9020's. Second opsion is to leave my main bike as it is and buy another set of 8000's for the bike i'm upgrading. The reason I'm asking is because on another Shimano related thread somebody posted that he had upgraded his brakes from XT 785's to XTR 9000's and was somewhat disapointed with the performance of the 9000's. A couple of months ago I owned two bikes. The one was using XT 785 brakes and the other one XTR 985. Same pads and same size rotors front and back. The 785's had much more impressive stopping power. The XTR M9000 from what I've read is a light weight race brake and the M9020 is a more agressive trail and unduro style brake. Comparing pictures of the two versions there is some obvious difrences in the levers and calipers. If the performance and braking power is better than the 8000's I will consider doing the first opsion but if its the same I'll rather save myself R3.5k and do the second opsion. Any advice will be welcome.

Not worth it. If you're looking for better brakes, go for the Hope X2's. Spares are plentiful, they're kick ass and they have a reputation of being the best brakes on the market for a reason. And if you're spending XTR trail money, I'd rather have something that's fully serviceable.

Them, or the SRAM Levels / Guides. No reason to go for the top of the line over the RS model. Also no need to go for the XTR's over the XT's. Wasted money, IMO.

It would help if we knew your weight, intended riding style and the type of bike.

Agree with Myles. If you're going to spend XTR money then also at least consider Hope, Guides or Saint. The Hopes can be had with 4 pot calipers if you want.

Or save half the cost and get XT M8000 with upsized Ice-tec rotors according to your weight and how much power you want.
