Having just come back from an awesome 2 week holiday in Mozambique, I was shocked at the amount of exotic bikes I saw there, ranging from a Surly FatBike in Barra, to a Specialized Epic in Jangamo. These bikes may be legitimately owned, but looking at the guys riding them, I doubt it: the Surly even had pieces of wood strapped to the SPD pedals so the guy riding it barefoot would be more comfortable :(

It really is time for an effective deterrent to bike theft and trans-border "relocation" to be put in place, and enforced effectively.

Revival of thread

If no-one creates a community to look at dodgy sales of stolen bikes, we'll never put a cog in their wheels. Deliberate pun.

So, anybody know which sites these use to advertise: Facebook etc? I had my bikes stolen in Pretoria and it is said they end up in Moz. Probably other neighbouring countries too.

How could we have this checked at the border? 24h quarantine and posting on bike hub etc for claimants to come forward.

Any ideas??

Getting things into Mozam etc is not exactly difficult. Unfortunately without proper interest by police on both sides it'll be a big struggle. Throw in corrupt police and it becomes near impossible.

Some big players involved in this type of thing no doubt.
