  1. Enjoyed it 🙂 started with a lekker park run on Saturday at Clapham Common. Not too many marathon runners there amongst the 1200 participants it seems. Okes take it seriously 😬 I have now done all the majors except for Tokyo and would say London had the best crowds by a long way. Everyone seemed to be out supporting so it was brilliant. more than 53000 runners so it’s a massive logistical task but everything ran smoothly from expo, to start area, to finish area. Could feel the legs from Oceans a bit but felt pretty comfy and didn’t go flat out. Left a little gas in the tank rather than go for any kind of PB. Comrades still to come.
  2. My first Oceans was a lekker one. Enjoyed the morning in the beautiful Cape and the few days back in SA. London Marathon tomorrow. Also my first and looking forward to a festive run in London Town. Quite the vibe in the city.
  3. How truly cold is it likely to be though? Can’t be that bad😁 Things start getting a bit unpleasant if it’s raining, windy, and close to freezing every day. But it’s just about heading out the door and cracking on with it. I run in many countries, with most during the European winter months, and some very wintery conditions sometimes (-15 or so). Shorts are generally quite fine till around 5 degrees. Closer to zero and below then warmer tights are an option. T-shirt, arm warmers you can just pop off if it’s too warm. Long sleeve if it’s not too windy or a light wind jacket is good for the chill. Buff, light gloves, and cap or beanie if it’s pretty chilly. And you’re sorted. if it’s raining you’ll be soaked regardless what you’re wearing anyway 😂
  4. Remnants of a serious endurance engine from Winter Olympics biathlon
  5. Very tricky to find now. I can have a look around at EU options. Why not look for some Vaporfly 2s?
  6. Agreed. It takes years and years to learn about Comrades. And even then one only learns a little bit each time. Having realistic expectations is key.
  7. I agree. In general should be put away. Of course for that event or specific peed session whip them out. The amount of people I see who use Next % as an everyday very slow jogging shoe or even walking shoe is unreal. Superb marketing and hype has been created by the brands.
  8. Another example of encouraging mediocrity? Hand out participation medals? parkrun is not about a race. The idea is participation and improvement. But of course many do try race and racing, even against oneself, is fun. So leave it be.
  9. Haha my mistake. I got confused😅 Het Koffielokaal seems your option
  10. I think you’re too far south 🙃 some very decent speciality spots further north 🙂
  11. You can also look at the German sites (eBay etc) perhaps
  12. Agreed. And in Europe in general. Many decent spots but sometimes hard to find. https://europeancoffeetrip.com/city-guides/ gives a few ideas
  13. There hasn’t been too much happiness with the UTMB empire lately that’s for sure.
  14. Not just difficult but incredibly costly. The costs associated with paying municipalities, police, metro police etc for road closures and personnel are significant for event organisers.
  15. Some make their way across the border. You’d be surprised at some of the bikes you spot in places like Mozambique. Some of them probably get loaded into containers and taken across the seas.
  16. Great video. Thanks. Do you also do testing for running at your Girona facility?
  17. And the ones getting “pocket money” from the franchises whilst at school
  18. Maybe give the Saucony Endorphin Speed a try. The Endorphin Speeds have a nylon plate (not carbon). You might also be able to pick up the Saucony Endorphin Pro (carbon plate) on special.
  19. Haven’t had much chance to get back on this thread. Well done to all those who took on Comrades and achieved your goals or had a tough day out but still took a lot out of the event. Every single person that commits to the training and lines up inspires me. The August date wasn’t too terrible I thought but would quite like it being in June. Living in the northern hemisphere though the August date definitely makes training that much easier. For those who complain about training in winter I smile sometimes. Not quite as unpleasant and challenging as trying to train through European winter (indeed dodging potholes in the dark in SA is risky business), believe me. The earlier sunrise and later sunset in August definitely helps, but the potential for a very warm day in August is always there. I do believe the aim is for June again. And a Down run again. This to get back into the pattern for a Down run 100th run in a few years. The August date this year was to try make it as late as possible to hopefully be clear of anything covid related potentially cancelling the event yet again. The ongoing roadworks and need for very expensive lighting that would have been needed in the earlier stages for a darker June run also played a role. How did everyone go?? I had a goal of silver and chuffed to get it with decent margin. Was definitely concerned how the legs would hold up to the hills given predominantly very flat training in the Netherlands and other flat European countries. Could run the downs okay in the latter stages.
  20. Not taking anything away from the bronze from Candice. But only 5 ladies finished the race. 6th and 7th were lapped and 8th was dnf. Seems like a lot effort putting on a race for 8 participants
  21. Anyone know what happened to Eli Iserbyt?
  22. Asked the same question a few weeks ago. Anyone doing Boston marathon on Monday?
