What is the PPA doing?

I don't know if it's part of a route. Pretty silly if it is.  Tomorrow I'll get my passenger to film a bit further on where the path is not wide enough.

My difficulty with this is if a vehicle approaching me drifts over the centre line and I have a cyclist approaching on the left. Not much I can do to avoid one of them.

If the road had a normal yellow line shoulder, he would be on the tar shoulder. All hell would then break loose. But because there is a metre of dirt to the left of the yellow line it's ok?

But you are right, at least he is on dirt.

I hate posting things cyclists do wrong but this is really worrying me as it's not only the odd rider, it's a daily occurrence and very dangerous a few metres further on where the side-path disappears. Just so stupid, IMO.

Rhodes drive approaching Constantia after Kirstenbosch.

I'm witnessing this more and more on my training routes

Now to be vigilant for oncoming cyclists as well as moving metal from behind ????

Almost got taken out by 3 x tjops yesterday morning at around 06h00.

I was going around the 90deg corner at the Pinehurst Traffic light, coming from Graanendal side.

All of a sudden 3 x bikes loomed up in front of me, riding abreast, on the wrong side of a ONE WAY and not a light in sight.

I got onto the brakes pronto, and managed to avoid them. The lady cyclist following me was not as lucky, and ploughed into the back of my bike. Luckily we stayed upright, but I suffered a bent rear derailer.

The 3 tjops you ask me. Well, they just carried on without a word or acknowledgement. After we untangled our bikes, I shouted at them, as they turned up Brackenfell blvd, still on the wrong side of the road. All I got was a wave of the hand from one guy, might even have been the "one finger salute", for all I know.

What did you guys think of the PPA segment on SuperCycling last night?

Uhm ja, the less said the better.

PR exercise is the thought that came to mind. Nothing about cyclist safety.

But then, it is a cycling show, and not exactly the viewer / target market to aim for.

I also think that Owen and Andrew let us down a bit by not pushing it.

Owen was very quick to share my tweets about "What is the PPA doing" but then doesn't ask, when he had the chance.

The issue is that we are the target audience. We need to hear what the cycling bodies intend doing, whether people are members or not. The cycling community NEEDS a unified voice if its to have any meaningful impact to turning the tide to this ongoing slaughter out on the roads! The people best placed to bring everyone together to get this unity are the likes of the PPA and CSA. What makes the PPA so relevant to this cause is that they have already had a visible drive to promoting this exact cause, but the follow through seems to be lacking, whereas CSA have not ever put a foot forward for this type of initiative. Bringing us full circle to the original thought... "What is the PPA doing?"

...and we know what he did

Sorry, I'm not focusing here.

I have sent Brett Herron an e-mail yesterday morning in my personal capacity raising some of the issues here. I still believe we need to follow through with Carbon29 proposal to set up a meeting with the relevant stakeholders at the City. At the same time, asking the PPA to use their muscle.

I was on SuperCycling a few years ago to talk about the #staywider campaign. Andrew spent 3 of my 7 minute segment asking me why cyclists jump red lights. To think I caught a 6am flight and got back to Cape Town around 7 that evening for 4 minutes of driver awareness. But at least I got 4 minutes.

Was a good question, should have asked Vogel the same type of thing....

Honestly....."Please buy our version of the Qhubeka bikes" and "Please enter the Maluti Double 90".

Pfft

Golden opportunity to address some serious issues and it was a sales pitch.
