How often should one replace a helmet?

To be honest, I had never even considered foam age as an issue. My problem tends to be something has worn out - usually the pads, then you can't get spares as the helmet is no longer a current model. I buys spare pads at around the time of purchase now.

If you ride a lot, once a year. If not, once every two years. UV rays harms the helmet which in turn looses it's protection ability.

If the study in the OP is right, then this would appear not to be the case.
