I've bought a roadie on Saturday.. The ratio is 52-39 but I want to fit a compact ratio rather...there is one on the hub for R1400/which is bb30.. Mine only says BC1.37*24 . will this compact crank work or not...??

It sounds like you have a treaded or pressfit BSA BB. Will not fit, but Rotor make an adapter to fit BB30 cranks into BSA frames. Get in contact with Evobikes. I got my last one from them.

Thanks alot.. Just spoke to him and he got the right crank setup for me for R2800... Double the prize of the second hand one but at least it will work I guess.. And new off course...

Save your money and just get a larger cassette. Compact really doesn't benefit you much. 53/39 and 11-28 is plenty gearing for most hills.

Had a 52-39 front with 11-25 back.

Moved to same crank but with 12-28 at the back. Just did the 99er this weekend, don't need more gears than that!

Actually prefer the 52-39.

Sorry, didn't see you are already on 12-28...

Just to clarify.... is it a 52/39 (unusual combo) or a 53/39 (standard crank - 130 BCD) or a 52/36 (compact pro - 110 BCD, can just change chainrings to 50/34)

I hear you.. But I'm not that strong...if I buy other cassette I must also change the dearuilure. Because that is a short mech..currently I'm at 12-28

Even a longer cage derailer and 11-32 cassette will work out cheaper than rings. Otherwise, get stronger! Work on short hills and get bigger and longer. Giggity

think we all sound a bit mean guys.. :whistling:

seriously OP if you just got a road bike ...,ITS HARD and it never gets easier you just get faster

you cant buy yourself fit you can only train yourself fit (spending money wont make it easier )

start easy don't expect to be some kind of champ in 3 weeks or 3 months etc etc

spend your money on a pro bike fit and a good pair of bib shorts

The problem is, somehow he has got into his head that a compact crank will solve all the problems. Someone has mentioned this, and now it's all he's seeing.

Hence the different options and advice. You're right that it's not easy on a road bike, and changing things won't be a guaranteed formula. Hence we are all trying to help him avoid a very expensive disappointment.

No guys its just hard coming from a MTB..I know I must man up.. I'll take it on the chin. I just though it will make the cross over a bit easier. If you guys say with enough practise I will get use to it then I will do that..

What the problem is entered the argus and now bought this bike to improve my time but I am sure will not be able to even finish on the roadie because I'm not strong enough at the moment for it...
