If you live in or near Durbanville, I'd definitely get a Tygerberg MTB Club membership. Then you have free access to all the trails mentioned. There are family membership options too.

Well, not really because you paid R600 odd  for the membership. But I agree that joining is a no brainer.

Just to clarify thie bloemendal day permit. Does this allow access to hillcrest via the padlocked gate? My understanding is that it does not. Does it allow access to majik forest via the gate at the top?

Does allow access to Majik, but last time I was up at the Hillcrest gate there is a notice stating that Hillcrest is for members only, day permits not valid. Does not agree with the notice so its a bit confusing, Probably better to phone Nicky at the TBMTB office and confirm.

100%!! My rides in January alone would have cost me R280.00 if I had to buy day passes. Also the membership fees go towards developing and maintaining the trails but as I understand it the bulk of the day permits goes to the farmer.

2 farms for the price of one as you get access to Welvergelegen trail as well

lol if you want to use that to justify it then fine. But it's still one trail and you are not forced to ride the new bit, just to pay for it.

you are not forced to ride (or pay) for any of it.

lol :P

I (and everyone else) know what you meant man.

I am a member and being a member makes total sense from a cost point. But geez, R60 is steep if you wanna take a first timer or non-regular mtber out.

And before anyone says anything, yes Hoogekraal CAN be ridden (including Cobra) by inexperienced riders under supervision of slightly more experienced ones.

I agree to but don't think Hoogekraal is ideal for beginners especially the cobra section ,there will be one or two areas on the cobra section where bikes would need to be carried or the chances of a novice falling and injuring themselves would be high, and then the fitness needed to get out of the valley so I would recommend Meerendal to the rider who is looking for a taste of what mtb is about.

Yup, not justifying it, just explaining reason, too much IMHO.

After the last thread, I thought they graded the Cobra to blue :whistling:

More like green....

Re-grading needs to happen. And a change in mentality for the general rider...constantly being told things are hard will make them (feel) hard.
