Too good to be true

He's also on Gumtree with less shots.

From the pics the dude loves to roll without grips but nice wide bars with his levers pulled right in to the middle. Obviously a XC guy at heart who succumbed to the #enduro phase and has now decided to sell up, cut his losses and get a nice hard tall with 620 wide bars... see there is always an explanation. It's not always scam, scam, scam. ;)

Oh, also looks like the Reverb dropper must be brand new and sitting in the box and he'll fit it once it's bought so he can keep his lucky alu' post that is on the bike and was passed down to him from his coach Swen L!

RE the bars...you'll need your own cause those pictured are rentals......

Hi Guys

Just to give you a heads up on a scam.

I've been looking for my first bike for a while and found one on OLX - https://www.olx.co.za/ad/mountain-bike-for-sale-nukeproof-ID16dQt1.html#794a40b7e4 . Upon doing research on the type of bike it is, the deal seemed too good to be true.

I called the buyer, and he sounded legit (he "owns a shop" called Aphis Bikes).

He sent me an email with a link to his website - http://aphiprojectholding.wixsite.com/aphibikes/shop . The shop is apparently located at:

MELVILLE'S CORNER SHOPPING CENTRE

PLATTENBERG BAY

WESTERN CAPE

I have just phoned the centre's management and they confirmed there's no bike shop there.

I've done google reverse image searches and see that he used images from other sites to create the fake website.

If you check out the rest of the bikes on the website, you can see it's an obvious scam.

I hope this post helps someone, especially newbies like me that don't really know the costs of bikes.

Google reverse image search? Well I'll be damned. That is awesome.

Wix just replied to me. They have removed his page

Fast response from them . very impressed

Ha man... but I just got a mail from him saying I could go and see the bike on Sat... in Plett... at his non existent shop. You guys spoil all the fun! :)

Funny thing is the details he sent this time about the bike are even better. It's been upgraded to carbon wheels, carbon chainset and the Nukeproof Warhead bars are back on. He's obviously taken his rentals back!

How does this work now ? since the shop and the bike don't exist. What's the next stop in his plan?

Is usually some excuses as why he cannot meet you for you to see the bike.  So will either ask for a deposit to hold the bike for you, else says can arrange shipping it to you if you pay for it.
