My wife hates it but I make her run with a 500ml bottle of water for even a 5k, if she isnt going to drink all of it then she pours it over her head. The scary thing is that she overheats even in the winter!

When she was younger she would run twice a day and a whole lot faster than she does now, she didnt used to have any issues.

She is 36 and not overweight at all, generally quite fit and doesnt spend all day sitting at work.

Its very strange and quite worrying at the same time.

My wife is also 36, so it must be age related then......

I must add, it seems also to be worse beginning of the running season when her fitness isn't quite where it should be. The past month and a half we've done a 42km, 32km and African X without any problems. But the best solution for her problems has been to replenish fluids as soon as she stops with her run. Water plus some energy drinks.

Panado should be ok - Myprodol should be avoided.

But she should really find the cause of the headaches - that's not normal.

So panado should've also been ok to take for itb then?    Not that I'm sure it is going to help anything wrt itb.  lol

I can never understand the mentality of taking any kind of pain killers to complete an endurance event. If you are experiencing pain to such an extent that the body's own pain killers, in the form of endorphins, are not enough to curb the pain to manageable levels you should stop. That is what a pain signal is supposed to do, warn against possible permanent damage.

Just a question for our in house doctors regarding the long term use of the mini aspirin, subscribed with statins, for the preventive treatment of cardiovascular risk due to elevated familial cholesterol. What is the risk of permanent kidney damage, taking the daily prescribed dose of aspirin, and partaking in endurance events on a regular base? Should one stop taking the aspirin when training something like say 8 to 12 hours per week? Should you just stop taking it while partaking in multi day events? Or should one perhaps "give your kidneys a rest ", by not taking the aspirin for something like a week every month or so.

There is off course also the opinion of someone like dr Mercola, that the use of apirin to minimise the risk of a cardiac event is totally over rated, and that the long term use has more possible detrimental consequences than beneficial ones. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/08/04/daily-aspirin-side-effects.aspx

Whould be very interested to hear your opinions on these.

My opinion is that you should ignore Dr Merkola... completely.

I don't know of any study on the use of such low doses of aspirin during endurance excercise- My view is that it is such a low dose you are unlikely to put your kidneys at much risk during normal training and racing type events - only ultra long endurance events with possibilities of dehydration one should be cautious about - so say more than about 3 hours.

But if you are taking statins as well then I would suggest a discussion with your cardiologist on exactly what limits your condition that requires those would sensibly impose - and then follow his medical advice.
