Did a search using the fantastic hub forum search tool and nothing came up so I started another.

My bad.

Imagine seeing these hills after 4,500km into a 5,500km race. Leader now at 4,100km

is cyclone debbie not affecting this ride ?

The wind between Geelong and Melbourne hit 100+kph while Mike was riding there today. Just rode. Clearly not a CTCT woes.

Ja, no wheel sucking allowed according to the rules.

so this is where JuJu is. Who knew he likes long distance cycling.

Sorry to rain on your Malema joke, but Juliana's race story is worth checking out, if you have not been following the race closely.

Juliana was one of the favorites for the woman's race. Initially she was doing well, but had to pull out of the race due to an allergic reaction at 1150km. She got the issue sorted out, and has now restarted the race. Not from where she stopped, but from the beginning!  Hardcore!

I love how these races negate physiological factors such as age and gender.

3rd position - Sarah Hammond - Female

12th position - Mike Sheldrake - 59 years old

46th position - Paul Ardill - 74 years old

read her story last night. what is interesting with this ride is how everyone is "buying" into the spirit of the ride. Her story is one of the many. And they are all awesome. Just need to win the lotto to buy a new back and fire the boss then I can ALLLLLL these rides.

So this race is actually relatively flat compared to other self supported ultra distance races.

IndPac - 32 000m assent 5 500km long = 5.8 m assent / km

TransAm - 51 000m assent 6 700km long = 7.6 m assent / km

Trans Afrika - 30 000m assent 2 800km long = 10.7 m assent / km

TCR 2016 - 80 000 m assent 4 200km long = 19.0 m assent / km

All the climbing is crammed into the last 1,000km. Or at least 90% of it is.

I think the different thing about the IPWR is the vast distances from Freemantle until Adelaide where there is just nothing.

I caught the India Pacific railroad when I lived in Sydney. 2 1/2 days of red sand was the view just out of Perth to well east. One section of railway was dead straight for over 500km. Imagine being on a train that doesn't have any sideways movement.

Mike Hall has caught Kristof Allegeart at 4,533km ridden.

Trying to figure out how. It seems Mike pulled an all nighter, while Kristof had a longer than normal sleep.

Apparently Kristof posted to social media that he overslept, but later deleted the post.

shucks, wonder if he can make that up its a couple of km to catch it up. Especially if mike has to sleep

Kristof is currently only 18km behind Mike. Less than an hours riding. I'm sure we are going to see the lead flip flop over the next day or so.

There were concerns Kristof's tracker had gone faulty as he had been static for some hours. Proved to be false as they found him where his tracker said he was, in a roadhouse having coffee.

It's going to be be real cat and mouse from here, 20 km difference is nothing really with 3 days riding to go.

It's like the old tales of escaped Tasmanian prisoners living in the bush. They dare not sleep as the first to sleep got eaten. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-11-21/pushed-to-the-edge-doco-reveals-tasmanias-cannibal/214416
