Ignore Patch... He likes 20 hour mara-slogs without even shaving his legs,because aerodynamics is for planes, trains and automobiles.

What on earth is mara-slogs? (Did try to google with no joy)

Search this site for 'Desert Dash'. Patch will tell you he went out for a quick ride after breakfast and got lost, but actually it's a flippen hectic 20-odd hour solo dawdle* through the desert.

* - it's not that

He does take his racing seriously. Some say he is Die Muishond.

(Another cryptic reference to a new Hubber, I know, but hang around a while and it will all become clear :))

Nah, don't worry, it is all fairly obvious.

(Die Muishond is the Hub's unknown maniac racer who's actual identity is still up for debate on Strava)

I am refering to the upcoming Clarens Ashburton MTB race... Which will be my very first race, preparing for my Karoo to Coast entry...

I am 38, weigh 62, been circuit training for the past 7 years. Started MTB in January 2017.

The weekend before I Did a flat 55km in 3:26... Distance was not an issue at all but the elevation is a different story.

Thank you for all the comments, definitly widened my frame of reference!

Even though its just a 45,I just want to prepare mentally as well...

A bit of a wild ass guess - between 3 30 and 4 15.

But a small tip - start slower than you plan to finish - pacing is a hugely important factor and your total time will be faster with a slow start and fast finish than a fast start and slow finish.

Just ride your own race and have fun - don't fall off.

Thanks for the tip Guy! And I don't plan to fall!

Welcome back in Jozi!
