I'm also looking... lets hope...

I'm also doing this later in the year... so if I can't get a C2T, at least the training is not for nothing...

C2T is a jol and definitely worth a go. I recall entries for sale closer to race time last year.

Waterberg definitely on my list for next year....looks awesome!! Can't do it this year...

To the people who have done this before...

I understand there is a LOT of climbing in the race - but how "technical" is this climbing?

Breedt's solidly kicked my butt yesterday from a rocks and gravel perspective (and yes - I only made it up the short slope - didn't even TRY the long slope) - so an now concerned that if I am doing that for the lat 100km - I am definitely out of my league!

personal i feel that only the last climb before you turn left to Tontoldoos is a bit tech, other that that is just open road and some jeep track climbs, but i could not remember any heavy lose rocks.

hope this will help

I haven't done Breedt's nek so difficult to compare, but in general, the climbs aren't very technical. The biggest climb towards the end is a gravel road - its not the smoothest gravel road but rocks and the like are mostly avoidable. I think with the new finish venue there may be a reasonably technical climb at the very end but that shouldn't be too long.

Most of the support route is on tar road but their are a few short sections of district gravel road. This should be fine for all vehicles (that are not extremely low) if you drive slow and cautious. The first short section of about 5km is to checkpoint 1 that is not compulsory for crew members. So if your team agrees, your support vehicle can skip this one and wait for you at checkpoint 2 at about 100km into the race. You will then just have to be self-sufficient for the first 100km (checkpoint 1 at the 50km mark will have water and snacks though). Checkpoints 2 and 3 are just off the tar road so that is no problem, Checkpoint 4 has a gravel road section of about 10km of rough'ish district road but can be easily done by any vehicle. Just drive slow. The last gravel section is the 25km district road from Dullstroom to Tonteldoos which can also be done by any vehicle. The condition of the road is not that great but not a challenge either.

98% of the route is on non-technical country roads. At some places the roads are a bit dilapidated but not technical. Only Korfnek pass about 15km from the finish can be a little technical and washed away if there was a lot of rain before the race but that is only maybe a kilometer max. The race is to test endurance and not technical skills :-)

Is Korfnek pass on the road between Dullstroom and Tonteldoos itself, or is it before the turn-off left to Tonteldoos on the Dullstroom-Tonteldoos road?

If you are driving from Dullstroom to Tonteldoos then Korfnek joins from your left just before Tonteldoos.

The road from Dullstroom to Tonteldoos is not in great condition.

Looks like the support vehicle is going to be my first hurdle.
