Oxter Posted September 11, 2017 Share I took heavy heavy strain. Following up on some of the other posts, when you get back to within viewing sight of the start area, +- 73kms in (stated distance of the race), and the lightie says turn left to go to the cruel joke of another 7km of the bike park I was not happy. You even cycle past the building next to the river and it still wasn't over.... Oh well, first marathon race done, but I don't think I'll be returning there in a hurry...well who knows. My Garmin read the max temp as 37 degrees. My Strava suffer score was "Epic" at 318 which I didn't know was possible. 203 was my previous highest.i have to agree with this. Up until the 72km mark (what my gps showed when we turned left) i really enjoyed the race, it was hard(due to the heat mostly for me) but i enjoyed it. doing that extra 8km section was ridiculous. how do you go from 65km to 73km to 80km? i was one of the people that rode past the last WP thinking that i will be fine until the finish. the thing that got me wasnt the fact that i ran out of water, but I saw a few guys lying down in the shade of trees without any water in their bottles and i could even offer anything to them. the organizers could have said something about the distance at the start line and people would have handled the situation differently. Even the results on their website show 79km Edited September 11, 2017 by Oxter Andrew Steer, SvdB and SilverRider
