highly unlikely that you'd get away with riding a stolen s-works in Botswana - there's a big cycling community there and they would spot it in a second.

As a fellow Stellenbosch resident who had my bike stolen last year, I have often wondered where they go and whether there is an organized syndicate that works the area. I would love to see some stats on bike thefts in the area and whether any of these thieves are ever found. I literally pursued all leads that i could to try and trace mine and nothing ever came of it. The funny thing is that I never saw high end bikes at the police stations or being sold second hand etc - They must be being shipped out somewhere else.

Thanks Hubbers, it seems there is a bike thief on the loose in our Stellenbosch suburb, he tried to break in again over the weekend and stole another bike in the area.The security and police know the suspect. Apparently he sells the bikes to tik drug houses who sell it on to the 'bike houses' who send them off to Mozambique. The good news is that if you're fast enough and have the contact of the policeman in the loop there is a good chance of them finding your bike. Many people don't follow up with the police and they end up selling unclaimed bikes to Cash Crusaders/Converters to make space for more bikes.
