Hi Guys,

In about a month, i'll be visiting SA for the first time. Starting from Jo'burg, heading to Drakensbergen, Lesotho, Swazi ... I"ll be traveling solo and will hire a car. I use to ride MTB-marathons here in Belgium so i would like to ride some trails this summer too (as much as possible). I don't bring my own bike so i"ll have to hire a bike.
Do you guys have any tips for bike rental (drakensbergen), good trails, group rides, stays/contacts?

Anything is welcome!

Thanks in advance.

Maybe look at buying a cheap second hand bike here on the hub classifieds. It might work out cheaper than hiring a bike for longer period. you can then sell it when you leave and regain some costs.

The Drakensberg has a few mtb trails. One popular ride is up the Sani pass into Lesotho, the topic is being discussed at the moment in another thread on this forum.

If you are in kwa zulu Natal midlands try to make a turn at Karkloof MTB club. Some very awesome trails there.

Dag Pieter.

I see this has been mentioned.

Chris at all out adventures in the Northern Berg (Royal Natal area) has plenty km of purpose built signposted trails & bikes to hire.

Iain at Mt Splendor in the Central Berg (Monks Cowl area) also has bikes that can be rented and guided rides.

Guys,

Thanks for the quick reply's! Great forum!

I think my best bet is to hire a MTB, as i plan to do other things (Safari/hikes, ...) too.

- I just wrote AOA to hire a bike. Seems a good point to take off.
- MT Splendor seems a good option too as i travel south
- Sani Pass would be my next destination (just need to find a bike there).

Feel free to share some other tracks!

Thanks in advance!
