CWC had two 520 units in their display, but at the full RRP R 6999 ..... I have previously commented that I dont see this on their web.

And today I search their web for the wheel stand mentioned in another thread ... low and behold I see they have the 520 combo on sale : R 5 695.

Now I KNOW that Evobikes has it for R 5 795

Jippeeeee ... time to walk over to CWC .....

But a few posts of the last few weeks stuck in the back of my mind .. and I quickly looked on the Evobikes webpage - https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/computers/garmin-edge-520-gps.html

Evobikes has a "Tour de France Special" .... this item was NOT on their emails, but is on their webpage.

YES, YES !!!

R 5 495

Quick phone call, reserved the last unit, and picked it up a while later.

PS - Evobikes is getting in more stock on Monday

PPS - the 520 is no longer on the CWC webpage .... just a few "Case skins" left ....

The initial setup is done ....

Unit is on charge ....

How does it "shut off" ?  :whistling:   Will it time out after the charge is completed ?

EDIT - got the shut off message as soon as I removed the charge lead.

garmin unit connects to the phone and phone does the rest.  You need to set it up that it uploads to strava..

once its on strava, you can download the web-app called stravastix.  Stravastix does (almost) the same as the "performance management tool" in trainingpeaks but its free.

so basically, I monitor cycling stats using garmin connect's standard info for the general metrics (hr, intensity, cadence, aerobic effect etc.) and then stravastix to calculate the equivalent of ctl, atl and tsb.

Download the Garmin app to your cell and connect via bluetooth when riding allowing Livetrack etc. As soon as you complete your ride and press save it will upload the ride via app to Garmin connect and if you sync to Garmin Connect it will automatically upload to Stava. Livetrack allows others to follow you in realtime on smartphone or pc when connected.

Thanks Cippo.

Turns out my old USB cable is acting up.  As soon as I switched to a new USB cable the setup worked perfect.

The next lesson - The Garmin heart-rate strap MUST be used higher on the chest than a Polar strap !!

For now I am playing with the Garmin page and getting used to what data I can see there ....

Next will be a Strava account to accumulate my Garmin and Polar data (from two bikes) to a single spot, and then to figure out how to do data comparisons .....
