If I sight from the rear the cage/jockey wheel has what looks like toe in...maybe but I'm not sure if I am imagining it. Think LBS needs to have a look.

Only take it to a shop that has an Hange alighment toll, they are expsensive and not many shops keep them

Took it to LBS and they said it was bent....straightened it and should be good to go.

If it is sorted I shall crow LBS name from rooftops as they did not charge me and did while I waited which I consider ever-so-awesome!

Riiiight, some feedback....

Went for a ride this morning and barring a small adjustment, all good and problem solved!

Turned out it WAS a bent hanger which was sorted out very kindly by Linden Cycles, while I waited nogal, thank you to Wolfgang and unknown colleague, you guys are awesome and did it while I waited.

Thank you also to all those who contributed meaningfully, especially those who pointed me at the hanger....

Will still change cables etc in the future as shifting could be lighter...

As an aside, when installing new cables on my roadbike, I would very lightly grease the new cable and then wipe off - would this be right for MTB or just cable into casing and off you go?

Cheers

I would have but when I looked out the window and all the bike shops had closes...Next ride is a few days away....But yes, thats a priority...made a big difference last time I did that on my roadbike.
