Hi

I also ride a Pyga Stage and I also just upgraded my wheels. I was very much on a budget so I tried to do it as cheeply as possible. My main reason for upgrading was to increase the width of the rim as I could feel the tire moving around in the turns.

So i ended up just upgrading the rims and putting them on my existing hubs. the rims I considered where Spank oozy trails but they didnt have stock so I ended up with WTB frequency team rims. I don't think they are the lightest rims but the difference they have made is awesome, they have given me a lot more confidence to lean the bike over.

Maye see if you can find a bike shop that can loan you a set to try.....

good luck

If I was to buy a set of wheels now it would be a choice of Lyne 25 or 30 wheels. At the bike expo the weekend a lot of bikes had the 30's on they looked great and very light for that width and only R5500

Will there be issues with tire clearance if I take 30mm rims in stead of 25mm?

I currently run WTB 2.3's, which is already quite tight in the frame and the front shock.

From what I can figure out, the tire gets a different profile, but not necessarily "wider"

Doubt it. I had 23mm on my Scott Scale and a 2.2 was as wide as I could go on the back. I bought 30mm rims and ran the same tyres. Same clearance. Just no light bulb shape. But to be honest, if I bought again I would by 27mm rims. IMO, a 30mm rim wants a 2.4 tyre at least.

I am running 2.35 ikons and they fit fine but I guess it is a bit tight, but no rubbing.

and yes the wider rims flattened the light bulb :D

I fitted my wheels, and new rubber on Saturday morning. First impression was that the 2.3's would have been slightly better on the 30 rim. Could probably have gotten away with 25mm rims, but it's too late now.

Took the bike out on Sunday, and man what a difference!!! The Rapide wheels are solid. We only rode the spruit, but I could at least test the rims out on some lekker berms, and did a couple of the smaller jumps. The bike felt unbelievably solid, and in the berms, the bigger contact patch on the ground was definitely felt.

All in I am ecstatic with my purchase. A set of 2.3 vigilante's will be my next purchase, but the Trailboss will do fine for now.
