What size N/W ring do you use?

Running Rapide 34 oval with standard 11-36 casette on 29er. Will upgrade casette to 11-42 when its time to replace. Ran out of gears at the Miami Magoebaskloof race earlier in the year. Was the first time I needed a lower gear.

want to go oval but can't decide between 30T or 32T

 

For 29er

 

I don't have an interest in grinding at 65kph ....I want to climb to the start of the enduro stage comfortably and use my skill to gain speed.

Oval 30t is quite awesome. I'm on a 29er Stumpy and only top out around 35km/hr, but... I am on a 10-42t cassette. That one less tooth on the top end makes a huge difference!

I am not a strong climber, but a 34t and 11-42 is more than enough. On the 42 you can rather get off and walk

I'm on my second 34T AB Oval ring matched with 11-46. Works perfectly for me as my XL frame needs the 46 to go up and the 34 to keep up with momentum down.

Mine going in this week for the change from 2x10 to 1x.

 

I hate hills and they always get me but I decided on a 34 round and 11-42 as I ride quite a bit of flatish open off-road and still want some top end and thought it would be a good compromise either way!

 

As was mentioned here before, if I can't pedal in the 42 then I'll just get off and walk
