Am using chinese rims and they are holding up well. Also easy to set-up tubeless

I went through this same issue a few months back when I got the Crux.

 

Ended up with some second hand Roval Carbons, with 40c on. Some good deals here in classifieds right in your price bracket.

its just carbon is the same weight roughly as the crests.

i understand that they are stiffer and more direct, will i ever need or even feel this extra stiffness?

i might be having a change of heart on changing the wheels just yet, yesterday i was really happy to have some solid wheels! - did some pretty solid offroading!

I have trust issues

 

I had the same trust issues. Then I noticed that the rims I was interested in weighed 500g each. I thought, surely they can't be weak at that weight...? Almost 3 years in, no issues whatsoever, even after whacking a big cateye at 70kph while avoiding an oncoming car in my yellow line and pinching a tyre as a result. And no....I have no interest in weighing the complete wheels
