Fox Float R

Good day,

I need some assistance please,
I bought a Silverback Mercury 3, it has a Fox Float R rear shock, now my problem is I am a bit of a heavy weight at 120kg.
the shock is current set to medium(if I read the label on the shock, have not tested), from what I read the shock can to pushed to a max of 300PSI.
how can I increase the pressure in the shock? can I use my normal Tyre compressor?

if the shock still cannot handle my weight what are my options? currently when I am on the bike, the shock compresses to just about its max. I don't want to damage the shock.

what shock can take my weight but still give me a softer ride.

hope you can help me.

regards

Buy a shock pump will set yout back about 600 bucks for a decent one. .. and no a normal foot/hand pump will not work nor a compressor. The shock should be okay for now however if you start pushing harder you may need to look at something more high volume like the fox kashima BV with the higher volume can.

Here's some homework to better understand.

Good article.  Just for clarity the "medium" setting marked on the canister refers to the tuning of the damper and not to the "spring" in the shock.  This can only be changed by rebuilding or replacing the shock.

The spring is set by the air pressure which you must control with a shock pump (and no other pump).

Hello

As suggested by David, the "medium" setting on your shock is actual the setting for the Fox ProPedal Valve option, and is not adjustable in any way (other than changing the valve option at the Authorised Fox Service centre).

There seems to be a lot of confusion on the internet about how to set up a rear shock correctly for a heavy rider. I'm only 74kg, so I wouldn't even dare suggest anything from personal experience.

Why don't you give Steve Bowman at Omnico a call and ask for his help. He's the Fox brand manager and would probably be the best to discuss this with.

Starting point for rear shock pressure always used to be your weight in pounds in psi i.e 120Kg is 264 lb so start by pumping to 264 psi with a shock pump.

Best to use sag set at 25% like that article describes.  You can fiddle around when you get used to the bike. Generally you should use most of the travel on most rides.
