Katbakkies Pass loop

I'm looking at riding from Kaleo (Ceres, Western Cape) anti-clockwise on the "Droehoek" Road towards the R46 and then through Karoo poort on the R355 and then left up Katbakkies pass and then back to Kaleo on the "Odessapad". It's seems to be about 165km.

Anyone done this or have some advise?

Take a look at the route map for the Transkaroo race, they use an alternative route parallel to the R46 that I think is much nicer, not sure if everything is on public roads though.

R46 not a particularly nice road to cycle imo, relatively busy tar road without a proper shoulder.

Edit - I see you only do a short bit on the R46 so it should be fine

I have looked at the Transkaroo route. I would like to ride a loop, not Sutherland to Kaleo or the other way round.

I'm only riding a few kilometers on the R46 (the section between Droehoek road to Karoo poort as I'll be riding from Kaleo on the Droehoek road toward the R46).

Sorry, my post was not clear - the stretch between Kaleo and R355 on the Trans Karoo route - spits you out of the mountains close to Karoo Poort, from there you can do the rest of your loop. Would be a bit shorter alternative
