Wider rim, less clearance with same tire?

Hi,

I messed my rim this weekend. Planning on getting a wider rim and using the same tire. Clearance however bothers me.

My question, will a wider rim dramatically influence clearance with the same tire? My guess is it doesnt make a difference,

If it does, how do I calculate the extra width?

What size tyre, what ID(internal diameter) of current rims vs what you getting.

We talking mm's so check how much clearance you have currently then we'd be able to tell, but my guess is don't be too concerned, if you still have ample space currently.

Ive measured my current rim and its 23ish mm outside, and running a 2.1 on it. Estimating clearance at about 15mm.

Planning on getting a 35mm outside rim?

Thanks gents.

BTW, try and confirm inner diameter as that's the one that will make the difference to the profile of the tyre. Going 23 to 35 I'm sure there will be a significant jump, but not all rims have the same wall thickness so some of the "gain" may get lost in wall thickness.
