Any tips for a first-timer from the wise hub experts? Seems to be a fast flat one with a nasty little climb right at the end?

Twisty course that's s bit lumpy and bumpy through the nature reserve with some out and back sections.

Mostly flat with a 7% kicker at the end

Should take you 2 mins to punch

Always cool near the coast ????????

Today was the most fun I have ever had with 3bar on tar. Could only bring one bike and because I want to ride Saturday and Sunday I chose the mokey bike.

Started in C-E and got dropped on Sunbird. Solo'd a bit and after the 1st water point some F riders flew past. Shortly after a lovely bunch of G&H appeared and I joined in.

Everything was perfect, the wind and mist kept me cool as I was doing some high RPM riding on the single 32t chainring available. After having turned around at the R27 side just past the T junction the I&J bunch caught up and the pace increased. Managed to keep up and took the lead a few times.

One my best road rides ever, so many friendly folks riding and at 2h34 my fastest time since 2011. Thanks to the park rangers and folks from LCE for keeping this fantastic event going. See you again tomorrow.

One of my pet hates at PPA events - that oke who pitches up in the wrong group and then giving the marshals grief when they try to direct them to the correct starting group.

Well on Saturday I was that oke...

Arrived late at the venue (long story full of drama), friendly tannie at registration sticked my sticker on my back - rushed to the start with less than a minute to spare. Only to be accosted by the marshal and PPA official because I was trying to start in A-B bunch with an "unseeded" sticker on my backside.. No way I drove all the way to Langebaan to start at the back because the antie gave me the wrong sticker so I refused but lesson learned - carefully check the sticker the registration antie gives you, especially when you are late!

Other than that enjoyed the ride, did not realise we basically have full road closure for 99% of this route. Given the cheap entry fee, road closures, a different route than the normal Paardeberg cow farms & no clashes with other big events - the turnout for this race was very disappointing imo. Us roadies should really do more to support the few people left bothering to organise road races.

We had half the race team there and half the compact team there as well. Was lekker, missed out, was at a wedding. [emoji482]

LOL, saw a young savage break his chain in the car park on Sunday even before the ride started. Fancy Santa Cruz bike.

I took it easy on Sunday, glad the route was a little longer at 43km and I love that single track down Seeberg.

New seeding is out...

Despite beating everybody in C bunch on Saturday my seeding has now dropped down to C - meh, PPA not exactly throwing me a bone here

"Officially" only the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour left to bump up my seeding before the Argus, PPA's seeding computer is never kind to my results from this race though - lets hope there will be a few more opportunities to save my seeding  ^_^

One of the other Savages sorta snapped their ultegra crank, too much power?

That seems to be quite a common problem with that Ultegra model (6800 I think?). I've seen a lot of pictures of similar problems on the interweb, including breaks in the crank arm.  See here for example: http://carlinthecyclist.com/epic-failure-ultegra-6800-11-speed-crank/

The equivalent DuraAce crank seems to have the same problem, although less frequent.  That may just be because fewer people have DA.

I think this is part of the reason for the new Ultegra R8000 having a broader crank arm and a chunkier connection to the rings.

That would be me, bit of a   & :cursing:  moment when you see your chain flying in two different directions  :cursing:

Was damn lucky it broke pre-race and not on the starting line

You are on the hub as well?

Well done on your podium, I am waiting for your afrikaans MTB race report.

Podium nogals! Well done.

I has my rear way too flat to do anything even remotely fast on Sunday. I did klap'it on that bit of tar we took up to Seeberg. Not as fast as I did the previous day, but we had a nice pace line going.
