Donations of new or old Cycling clothes

Good morning all from Florida Hoërskool

 

Firstly I would like to thank all the cyclists who helped us with new and secondhand cycling gear, without you a whole lot of kids would not have been able to join the cycling world, you really made a difference.

 

I need some advice from the experts, how do you maintain a Cycling club?

 

My chalenges at the moment..

sceptic parents, as we know cycling is not the cheapest sport but it creates an opportunity for children who do not perform well in team sports, they are not 'big' enough... the list goes on, these parents 'as we can understand' wants to see if the child really enjoys it and if it is an ongoing sport from eg. the school side.

 

All the time I have new commers wanting to join but do not have what they need in order to start cycling in a competitive manner.. now do we ask members of the community or do we send them away?

 

So now being a desperate teacher who will be having atleast 10 new kiddies next year with no gear, would like to ask you if you have cycling clothes/gear that you are not using, would you please consider donating those for a good cause?

There is a school in PE, which had similar challenges a number of years ago. They seem to have got it right. Anriette Schoeman, probably one of the best female cyclists that SA has ever produced, is a product of this school's cycling program.

 

Perhaps give them a shout, they can give you a few tips. The school is Lorraine Primary and the teacher involved is Alex Cooper.
