RD cage rotation/angle

Also I doubt you need to worry about chain retention in front. Those teeth look plenty long.

Depending where he rides [emoji6] - just from experience .....

That long cage also makes it a bit odd.

A medium cage would look much better with that cassette ratio.

Just using what I had available - over 12 donor bikes so far!

The future plan is to switch to an 11-36T cassette, which should match the RD better (not the reason I intend to switch), but then I'll be exceeding the largest sprocket for that RD by 2 (34T vs 36T).......decisions.

if in big-big, you should still have some upward rotation of the rear mech. (you only need one or two links extra since there's no suspension travel that needs to be accomodated).

If the mech can't rotate anymore, then the chain is too short. How much upward rotation did you have left when your chain length was as depicted in the first post?

There was still a little upward rotation, but not much. Happier now though...

Additional link (3 in total) added. I'll take it out for a ride this weekend, and report back on changing and how many dropped chains I have :whistling: .

Thanks again to all for the advice.

So I promised feedback. 2 hour ride, with around 30 mins on gravel. 0 chain drops and good changing (changing up has its usual occasional miss but I'm pretty sure it's the elderly state of the STI as it feels it doesn't engage every time, rather than chain length/RD, as it was present with the old length too. A newer STI is in the wings when I go to x10 rather than the current x9).

Thanks again all.
