Sometimes I just shake my head ... After the trouble they went to how many gravel bikes turn up? A whole fat 3, my son and I and 1 other speedster that let us in his dust.

Lots of big mouths but a bit short on action guys, DON'T moan when you can't race your gravel bike next time!

I was standing right behind you guys at the front of B batch...very surprised to see only 3 of you?!

What did you think of the route on a gravel bike btw?

I rode past one toppie who was pushing a gravel bike on a VERY bumpy grassy section. Dunno if he punctured or if that particular part of the terrain was not rideable on his steed, but he did not look like a very happy camper.

Anyway, it was a great morning out. I will be back for the winter iteration for sure.

Mmmm ja ... For sure not the right tool for the job and I doubt I'll be doing that again soon. Not that it wasn't bucket loads of fun doing something different [emoji41]

Was probably me you saw muttering to myself [emoji36] - had a few punctures, used my spare tube and my son's, told him to carry on. I had decided to just pack it up and go home when a friendly fellow rider, Chris you bloody champ, offered me a mountain bike tube. Put it in and decided that even though there was still 50k's to go to just take the chance and see what happens and lo and behold an incident free ride from there!

As an aside those bloody Vee Rail tyres are just plain crap, not my first time having triuble with them. Puncture for the slightest thing [emoji58]

Sorry JC didn't see you 2 guys in the front and I guess they could have been just a bit clearer about the Gravel start. I went and chatted to Richard earlier so we knew about it

There was also one other 'I'll be there on my CX bike as usual' that chickened out and went for a girlie bike [emoji39]

Was a nice race but the marshall in the silver/grey Mahindra bakkie at 7km directed a few of the 10 km riders incorrectly down the opposite way of where we were supposed to go saying we started in the wrong batch. I was confused as there was only 1 batch for 10k riders so I just carried on going at full speed down a sketchy path through the veld, I was in 5th place at the time and I could see the 4 riders up front somewhere but due to the long grass didn't see I was on a completely wrong path to them and the marshall didn't bother stopping us so I just carried on. Ended up doing an additional 3.6 km and ended 95th overall, according to my watch my average speed was 19.4km/h so I should have gotten 6th overall but my own fault for just going balls to wall and not paying attention. Better luck on the next one I guess LOL
