Hey everyone, howsit going...

With the crazy petrol prices again on the rise i'm considering cycling to work. I want to get me a MTB just to commute to work and back. What bike (new/2nd hand) would you recommend that gives a nice comfy ride for everyday riding. Something thats not more than R2000.

Thanks.

depends how far you're going at what sort of traffic you're going to encounter. road for longer. mtb for more urban (city) stuff: you may need to take to the pavement every now and then to get out of the way of things with more wheels than you.

MTB for sure . Does not matter if it is a km from home , stay off the tar !!! I use to cycle from Centurion to Sandton city on MTB and there is just no ways I will do it on a road bike .

Hi all...

Yeah I'll probably want to get a second hand bike. Anything in the 2k range brand new is pretty much a load of crap. So anyone you know of selling 2nd hand mtb?

Home and back its 22kms. Not much.

I've got loads of kits, thats not a prob, just need the bike.

Thanks

My suggestion is an old steel road bike with 36 spoke wheels and 28mm tires. My bike is cheap to maintain and fairly bullet proof, even under my not-quite-svelte 105kg. I've had to bunny-hop potholes and drain covers and even onto and off the curb a couple of times. No issues.

I've tried my hand at singlespeeding, but found it impractical for my commute. The Cape Doctor blows against me in the mornings and in my back in the afternoon.
