Irons Posted January 11, 2018 Share Hey guys. I need to send a MTB from CPT to PE via courier, but it needs to be packaged. Is there anyone in CPT who is willing to part with an old bicycle cardboard box (i.e. the box a new bike comes in), or anything similar. Open to other suggestions. It is a Giant Trance in Medium (650b), and I plan to remove the wheels and handlebars, and stick it in the box, surrounded by bubble wrap, etc. Shot

EvO Posted January 12, 2018 Share I have a similar situation, bike needs to go from CPT to PRY.Phoned a few bike shops in CPT yesterday to inquire about the "used" boxes - i.e. the box a new bike came in, but that will be thrown out as the new bike owner does not want the box.Going rate for these, R 200.00 plus. Shebeen Posted January 12, 2018 Share I'm happy to name and shame any lbs that sells a used bike box for profit. It's making a quick buck, but totally the wrong message imho Sepia
T-Bob Posted January 12, 2018 Share almost any bicycle shop just ask A few times I've needed them my LBS has given them to me for free (I'm guessing because I've been their customer for a while but they also sell them to peeps who walk off the street) and Bikemob in westlake have always been good as well. I've got no qualms about paying R100 or R200 for a good bike box rather than trying to hack something together. It also means the bike gets to the guy who bought it in good shape so not issues there. You pay for bubble wrap, tape etc so why not a box if you want one? I always put on the bottom of my ads that 'shipping at buyers costs' and that means courier, box etc. If anyone get's a bit off about it (not that i've ever had to charge for a box) I simply say "want me not to box or bubble wrap and chuck it on the courier like that?" People are happy to pay an extra R100 for their R15,000 frame to arrive pretty and in one piece.

BUT generally the used bike boxes come from selling to a client, and they normally pile up in the back and get recycled/thrown out once there's too many. I might be a bit old school here. It's not on the stock sheet and they didn't pay for it. Just leaves a k@k taste in my mouth. Sepia
