  1. Dr Levetan @ Chris Barnard. I've seen him every 18 months for 10 years & he's been nothing short of brilliant.
  2. BikeHub 'year in review' should have a 'comment of the year section', and this should be it.
  3. This is the link that was shared with me a couple of years ago: https://www.strava.com/activities/1219513235. Received from: https://community.bikehub.co.za/user/50271-dirtypot/
  4. Yes the H&A trails are something special, and there are some fantastic options in the initial forest bit and then multiple routes (red, black, etc.) going forward. For a quick burn around town, climb to the mini reservoir / water works silo off mountain drive; it has an exit just to the right of the silo, and you can ride this down to the astro, and then go through (via the road parallel to the golf course) fernkloof all the way to the other side of hermanus. The signage towards the end is pretty poor though, and I've ended up on walking trails and been shouted at by very aggravated residents! There are also trails in Stanford, but the road works / stop and go delays are painful on that road. One last option is the route from Peregriene farm stall all the way to hermanus, but requires some time and a sense of humour.
  5. The amount of online fraud that is happening right now is frightening, and don't think it can't happen to you. Many an intelligent man / woman has fallen victim to somewhat sly dealings of our fraudster friends. That being said, there are a couple of simple principles that are key to ensuring you don't scammed. See below, and feel free to add: You never release goods on receipt of a POP, SMS, etc. You don't release goods even if you see the amount pending in your account, as fraudsters use cheques, which makes it look like it is in your account, and then cancel it once they have your goodsThe only way to get around this is to always phone your bank to confirm that the cash has cleared into your account (cleared!); ask them clearly if it is cleared and if it is a cheque paymentThe same goes for the trick that 'I paid you twice, please refund me'; wait until the money has cleared until you act and give them their money backOn the Hub, look at the profile of the person you are dealing with, i.e. have they joined within a ~week, no posts, vague name, or if they have been around for a while, look at their ratings; the sign are usually thereProbably much more to add here, but the first two points should go a long way. Long story short, for all the good and honest traders out there, there are as many fraudsters. Be meticulous.
  6. I'm in the same boat here and cringed when I saw this thread. Mine has been on for 5 months and it is still going great. That being said, I wash my drivetrain thoroughly after almost every ride, and then lube up before the next one. One thing I've found is that the jockey wheels collect a lot of junk - way more than my previous shimano setups, and requires active cleaning.
  7. I own a Zaskar & love it. What turned it into the ride I'll keep for a long time is the SRAM 1x12 upgrade and the dropper post.
  8. I'm in PE this festive seasons and while being well akin with the goodness of Baakens Valley Trails, I've heard that there is a route from somewhere around Baywest Mall, all the way down to Bridge Street. Does anyone know anything more about this route. i.e. where it starts, route, if it's still being ridden, etc.?
  9. I keep an eye on the Stolen Bikes section, mostly with the hope of helping someone retrieve their beloved, but also to keep an eye on the activity in my hood and honestly, to learn how to ensure my beloved does not get legs. From this I've learned the following:Thule bike rack left alone = stolen bikeTry not to live in Stellenbosch, and if you must, try not to own a bikeSomeone will steal your bike at a race; never take your eyes off itA u-lock is the only effective means of securing your bike while commutingSomeone is looking to steal your bike; take the time to secure it in your home/garageYour bike will get stolen from the back of the bakkie (secure it)Never, under any circumstances sell a bike to someone unless the bank has confirmed that the money is cleared (cleared!) in your accountWhat have I missed?
  10. Sent you a PM with the file.
  11. The trails in town are fun for an evening bash. About 400/500m down mountain drive road, you enter up a jeep track, and then a small climb to a mini-reservoir. Just to the right of it, you enter in and there is a nice 1.2km XCO track (it was a bit overgrown when I was last there). If you carry on and make your way to Fernkloof, there is another trail there - not all time trails, but fun.
  12. Great bike, and the dropper makes a world of difference! Keen to follow your journey. I have a GT Zaskar 29er, and am looking to switch to 1x11, and hopefully (if the geometry isn't affected) up my fork from the current 100mm to 140mm.
  13. Baakens Valley in PE is always good fun (don't ride alone). Start at the fat tracks in Walmer. If you do go further east, crossroads (halfway to Jbay) is also great.
  14. Quick one: When I have the dropper down and am out of the saddle heading down trails, I am getting ridiculous pain in my feet, in the area of the cleats, obviously due to the pressure. Riding a hardtail and pedals/cleats are SPDs. Any insight into if this is better with other cleats/pedals or a better quality pair of shoes (mine are average)?
  15. I was there yesterday and saw a gent running through the last bit of single track before the Rhodes Mem gate, with his chain hanging from the RD, and his partner carrying his crank behind him...Table Mountain, it'll get ya.
