According to reviews the camber has 120mm travel. Merida has 100mm. That alone makes the camber a better option. What is the price you can get them at? Have you looked at the Trek range?

If you could get to R30k then I'd go for the Trek, Fuel EX 5.

Here's the thing, it tends to be that you will have more range on a 2X especially since you have been going for a year, it could help depending on fitness. But to install a 1X will be easier than replacing a fork or shock for ibcreased travel. 120mm is gonna make the bike a little more fun but still good for cross country.

The angles on the Spez seem a little more relaxed which should help in handling.

In my opinion it is also a considerably better looking bike. What kind of riding do you enjoy most? Also which one makes you smile the most...which one do you wanna look at all day long

Yes (Drive Train Wise it is) It's easier to ride a 1X than a 2X for obvious reasons.

Also a 2x drive train is now considered obsolete. And very Expensive to Upgrade Later.

What is the weight of the 2017 Camber Comp ? (Can't find it anywhere)

The Spez Camber Expert is a Better bike than the Merida and That's the one to get. 1X12.

How does a 1x make riding easier? Surely 2x offers a better spread of gears which is more beneficial for 90% of us.

2x is certainly not obsolete, not even close to being obsolete.

All the Bikes that retail for Top Dollar from All Manufacturers  (Team Bikes etc etc) Bikes that Cost Above 55 K ZAR are 1X.

There must be a reason why manufacturers have gone down that route or are they all doing the wrong thing. Am I missing something here.

I ride a 2X10 and I hate the change down from the Big Ring to the Small as It Causes a Lot of Pedal Spin causing me to have to make 2 or 3 fast down changes. What I do now is do the double down changes first and then do the chain Ring Change. Changing from the small ring to the big ring is not a problem.

When I buy my next bike it will be a 1X without a doubt.

I rode one for 20Km @ Modders (swopped bikes with a friend) and I liked It a lot.

I've been riding Mountain Bikes for more than 25 years, Road Bikes before that.

I'm not punting the Merida Specifically but I do think that the OP should try to source a 1X in his price range.

Ok, the Spez Comp Camber that I wanted to buy 2nd hand is an XXL frame which is too big for me. I’m 188cm tall and the frame is rated 196cm.

So I guess I’m going for the Fuel EX 5. Can get is new with tubeless conversion for 28k.

What do you guys think ?
