So Tijl walked into rehab this week and the doctors were asking where the patient is?

:)

This place is mentally very hard and I have huge respect for anyone working and recovering here. Even I would not have made much sense had they sent me here a week earlier but a blood cloth in my right calf kept me at ICU a week longer! I've been VERY lucky they saw my swollen calf!

I did a NC hill rep from Weltevreden Rd side on my way to work and coming down the other side towards Main Road a 4x4 jumped a stop street and crossed the road... I was very close behind a car turning left into a road the 4x4 was crossing into so the 4x4 driver claimed he didn't see me as he jumped the stop street to cross the road I was coming down on.

I hit the 4x4 on his right front as he needed to go slightly up to cross the road as it wasn't a straight crossing. So he was going at a slow speed up and crossed right into my down lane as I was probably going at a high speed down and I hit the 4x4 right front side.

My carbon front fork broke off (maybe luckily) so I flew over the engine cover and into the front window. Which resulted in cut arms and luckily not my face! My helmet cracked on impact and made my brain bleed a bit bit it stopped fairly quickly. I think after hitting the window I flew onto the pavement My lung collapsed, broke ribs and cracked my right pelvis (which they fixed with a small titanium plate).

I don't remember anything so the above is from the police report and witnesses.

Damage is healing well but brain could take a while to be back at 100 percent but luckily I can make sense and talk / reaaon pretty well.

It just makes me realise we cyclists have very little protection on and it's not worth going so fast as cars can make mistakes as we do but with much worse consequences for us!

Watching Paris Roubaix made me realise cyclists are having or so close to accidents. Rip the rider that died of a heart failure!

Keep the positive attitude up. All the best with your recovery.

I'm legally not allowed to drive a car or ride my bike outside for another 4 months (6 in total).

I'll make peace with that!

Thanks for the support guys!

Just lay off those Belgium waffles otherwise in 6 months time you are going to have a serious uphill battle on your hands :P

So - when must I drop off a trainer? Next week a bit late? :)

Haha! I'm hoping in a few weeks time I'm good to go but will definitely wait for surgeon input!

Wife and I may fight for our direct drive trainer!

That's a BIG (hopefully not!) worry indeed.

And would make downhills even faster which will send me in a panic!

I'm fabulously fast on the downhills for that very reason, but I don't like competition, so you can leave the waffles for me ;)

Thanks for all the support!

Did my first 15 min turning the legs yesterday as Dr said I could.

Pretty painful and couldn't touch my handlebars yet but nice to get the blood flowing again!

4 months of indoors to go still as anyone who hits their head / brain hard isn't covered by med aid for 6 months after impact date!

Safe cycling everyone!

Seriously? Is this for all eventualities and / or medical schemes?
