Shave, don't shave whatever. I don't but reason I've heard for shaving

Easier to heal in event of a crash.

I do not, nor do I plan to crash on a regular basis and I'm not a Cavendish.  If you do find yourself crashing too frequently perhaps invest in cycling lessons before you spend money on shaving stuff

Looks good, pro's do it.

I'm not in the habit of looking at other guys legs and I'll be extremely uncomfortable if instead of concentrating on how they riding they are perving mine out.

Makes you faster.

Really ? Has there ever been a scientific study done and if so how does that help a position 999 at best rider like me.

Better massages.

Here is a point, as a massage therapist I would rather massage a smooth leg than a unshaven one so I'll skip the leg massage and spare the poor therapist.

I do wax from time to time. Find that my SO does prefer the waxed legs over my normal hairy self.

Only 2 true pro's for cycling (specifically MTB) I have found is:

1) Scratches etc from l low hanging branches and these stupid small thorn trees heal a little bit quicker;

2) Mud doesn't clot on smooth legs, and damn that can hurt when pulling those clumps of mud and hair off!!!

Re massages: I can see this point in, but never had one so not applicable to me.

OP to answer your question: Don't do it right before a race. The skin is more sensitive and sometimes irate which does not mix well with sun. Give it at least 3 days to heal before the race.
