Symmetrical vs asymmetrical

And then you have less contact area on the ground? Wider rim and wider tyre puts more rubber on the ground hence more grip.

Google what pressure the PRO's run, saw a video clip of Nino saying you should "almost" feel the rim if you put your them accross the tyre and then push down with other hand and ALL your weight.

Ja i dunno hey. I'd rather take a wider tyre, somewhat wider rim (I agree with the Stans thinking) and more pressure than have an even wider footprint and a squirming tyre. I guess we're sort of heading in the same direction actually, I'm just not a fan of low pressures on wide tyres as the Uber Alles.

Maybe I just square corners too much when I hit them, but I like some support from my tyres. Especially on off-cambered corners. Even more so when I really load the tyres and ask alot of them.

If you're going to be researching what pro's run, maybe check out Loic Bruni's bike check. DH bike, 2.3 tyres. Narrow rim. World champion.

Different sides. Same coin.

Without reverting to my old text books, I'd guess that a 20% increase in rim width (from 25mm to 30mm) will give roughly 5% increase in overall volume. I'll see if I can find an online calc or something a bit later.

Based on my (very) rough calcs (and assuming that the tyre/rim combo is a torus) I get around 5% more volume on a 2.35" tyre going from a 25mm to 30mm rim.

running ex471's iirc, which have a 25mm internal width afaik.

So - with 2.3 Spaz's (which are pretty farking narrow) he's running (imo) the ideal combo for that size tyre.

Isn't he on spez tyres?

But they're pretty narrow as well.

I just fitted Butcher and Slaughter 2.3 's to my 30 ID rims, they look okayish!

Never been a fan of spaz rubber, will see how they do in the Enduro come Sunday
