FitGen. What should I know?

I scrolled down some of the previous topics but via TapaTalk the search function does not pick up anything.

Is anybody using their products and if so what is the verdict. They make energybars, recovery drinks pre race drinks and also vitamin pills by the looks of things.

Somebody at one of the races mentioned the products.

First I am ever hearing of it, is it even sold in shops?

What are you looking at them for? What are you wanting to achieve from using them?

What is your aspirations, what do you need from a sports drink? If you're not a pro, semipro or a serious biker with endurance event aspirations like johberg2C, pioneer or epic you hardly need the expensive sugary mixes sold as sports drinks. If I feel I will need something more than water, usually on rides longer than 3 hours, I will mix my own with good quality south african honey, salt, water and maybe some juice. Google honey as sportsdrink. For even longer rides, and especially multistage events you've got to switch to real food for your energy, fat and protein requirements. Nuts, biltong and fruit are then my choice of weapons.

My daughter runs cross country and although banana works it sometimes is too much and when she runs bard it wants to come out.

According to the info at hand the person developed it has a son who also is very good at sport. It is supposed to be good for kids.

They make energy bars and a energy drink. That is about what I know.

I dont want to go overboard here so I want her to use it with or instead of the banana.

Am always weary of a website that does not have a physical address. ... and a considerable number or E-numbers in their products, which I think you might want to take a closer look at?

Why are you not considering the regular and well known products on the market?

Ya, looking at the site and product details I would not buy that for myself let alone the kids I don't have.

I personally use tailwind, safe for kids I have no idea, cannot even tell what makes fitgen safe, the protein shake alone looks to have about as much sugar as a coke.

Race foods far bars are quite likely to be safe for kids, all natural and locally made, I dunno how long cross country is but a far bar I would take around 1 per hour of running, but fast bar is better, it's made for running.

I will say I was very impressed with my 2 uses of tailwind so far for running, there was a noticeable lack of drop in energy compared to previous runs on the same trail. Still need to test it on something more serious, but I plan on having 1l on me for JMC in 3 weeks.

What distance are the runs? Normally protein / carb meal 3 hrs before event. Drinking fluids regularly throughout. Something very light to snack 30min or so before. Keep hydrated during the event.

Nutrition the day before should not be neglected or underestimated either. Primer for the next days event.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Races are 2 km but for me the issue is eating before a race. Night before the race we do carbo loading. If the race is early then I am looking for something light as whole banana is too much.

Like I said we heard about it from a fellow athlete's mum. Her son is the SA Champ in his age group and she swears by it. Obviously the boy has loads of natural talent as he runs away from the rest of his group in races.

Thanks Johan

2km, is it just me or does cross country really oversell the distance, especially with all the nutritional questions, I was thinking it's like 15km.

Tailwind worthless for a 2k,maybe try the far bar, but maybe adults are different but unless it's a race, I don't bother bother with breakfast if I plan on doing less than 10k except for mountain runs.

I assume you have already tried nothing, for something that quick I would focus less on pre race food and more on recovery, although I am still uber thrown by this 2km. I just can't reconcile 2km with nutritional requirements.

Does that not take these young spry kids like 5min? Not even being sarcastic or anything, I see single digit wonders taking the podiums beating running like sub 4min paces on 10k trail runs.

She does not want to run on an emty stomach hence my asking. Yes 2 km takes her 7 and a half minutes. Perhaps more to calm the butterfly's down but their group is super competative. In north Gauteng we have 5 kids who give each other hell each race. If the age is relevant she is 10 this year.

Give the fast bar a bash, nougat, coconut and cashew. About 90kcal a bar. I have only seen them at sportsman's and Dis-Chem but sure you will find it elsewhere.

You need to go hi-tech like high school days...Jellytots, Enerjellies (energade jelly thingies) etc. Have some on hand for the run and have a couple before starting. This doesn't replace proper nutrition & hydration and purely to help settle the butterflies. Easy on the tummy and satisfies the mind. Key is not to try and finish a packet!

Can I also use some for myself as well? I said to my wife last year that it feels as if I am racing too. I thought that because it is my daughter I would be relaxed but it brings back all the memories from years ago.
