Oliver Posted June 6, 2008 Share i need to switch sides and rant abuot something quickly... as a cyclist, i do my best to stick to the side of the road and as far away from motorists as possible - however, i've seen far too many ppl steer into the road, almost IN FRONT of cars... i see it all the time and in my opinion, motorists have every right to throw their toys about this. im not defending drivers here but obviously if youre going to ride in the middle of the road like ive seen LOTS of cyclists do, then expect passing cars to give you the finger because it can be really frustrating. ive seen guys nearly get knocked off their bikes because of this - fair enough, drivers need to be careful, but if i see a cyclist riding along the side of the road ill expect him to stay there unless he HAS to move in front of me for whatever reason, in which case ill be able to forsee this anyway and slow down etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Where I have been working in Suriname Pedestrians and cyclists have the most rights to the to road. What a pleasure to ride a bike in that culture.! They will consider signs when a cyclist gets killed or ridden over... Where I work we talk about preventative maintenance. Does not seem to be the case with them... Willehond Posted June 6, 2008 Share ALL South Africans think they own the road, not just motorists. What has really hit me (pardon the pun) here in my first week in Holland is how tolerant the cyclists and motorists are of each other and road laws. OK, bicycles get there own lanes which is great, but cars will wait for them when the road narrows and cyclists stop at red lights (CAN YOU BELEIVE THAT??!) On the road in the car as well, people don't get upset in traffic (and beleive me it's bad out here!), they also don't jump red lights. To be honest, I don't think putting up a sign in SA on a road will make any difference.
